Buy from a quality maker such as Jaques of London, and boards are magnificent in their fashionable colors. Some Jaques boards are portable folding versions crafted of card and linen (12”), others (17” and 23”) are hand-made of exquisite mahogany wood, finely finished for years of use.
The American board game of Parcheesi came from “Ludo,” one of the many games invented by Jaques. This top-name English firm reinvented the traditional Indian board game of Pachisi into Ludo in the late 1800s. Family-run since 1795, Jaques invented Snakes and Ladders, Snap, Tiddledy-Winks, Happy Families and dozens of other famous games. They also introduced Ping Pong and Croquet to England. All Jaques Parcheesi – Ludo games come gift-packaged by hand, and each wooden board includes a rules book. Think: “great gift ideas”!
